Essential terms
A good contract states the job title and duties, place of work, salary and allowances, working hours, leave, EPF/ETF, probation, notice, confidentiality and grounds for termination.
Probation
Probation periods of three to six months are common, and may be extended once with written notice. During probation, employment may be ended more easily, but the process should still be fair.
Confirmation
Employers should confirm employment in writing at the end of probation. Silence after probation may lead to an argument that the employee is confirmed.
